Bear in mind that while the17-35/2.8 isn't as large or heavy as the 24-70/2.8, it's still a handful. If you don't need f2.8, I think the 24-85/3.5-4.5 AF-S VR is a good compromise between image quality and size and bulk. My favorite moderate Nikon zoom remains my 24-120/4 VR, especially on a D750 body with it's excellent high ISO performance.

The image borders start a bit softer wide open, but increase to very good resolution stopped down to f/4 or f/5.6 (at 35mm). At 28mm, the borders already very good sharpness wide open already. The extreme corners struggle on the large FX sensor to deliver acceptable sharpness wide open, especially towards the short end of the zoom range.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm 1:4G ED VR, announced in February 2010, has the distinction of being the world's first ultra-wideangle lens to feature optical image stabilization. It's designed primarily for use on full-frame DSLRs, as a less-expensive alternative to the likes of the 17-35mm 1:2.8D or the 14-24mm 1:2.8G, but is also fully compatible with DX bodies on which it offers a 24-50mm

Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro Nikkor : A focal length of 40 mm on a camera with a DX sensor corresponds to a focal length of 60 mm (for example the Nikon AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8) on a camera with a full frame / FX sensor. This lens is a bargain if you own a camera with a DX sensor: for a few hundred dollars, the Nikon 40 mm macro offers

Jun 24, 2014. #1. I'm looking at either getting the 17-35mm AF-S or the 16-35mm VR? I like the build quality and 2.8 aperture of the 17-35mm, overall it feels like a solid workhorse. On the other hand the 16-35mm has fancy VR and seems to be sharper, but it's an f/4 and a little bulky. I'll be using this lens for event/pj work, so corners won't

When I got the D800E I looked carefully at whether I should replace the Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D AF-S with one of the newer lenses. I decided not to replace it. Center shapness is excellent. At f/5.6 and smaller apertures it beats the 14-24 according to photozone. 100% crop of center from D800E. The problem comes in the extreme corners.
Tokina AF 35mm f/2.8 AT-X M35 Pro DX Review. Review by Markus Stamm, published October 2011 Introduction Until just recently, when Nikon introduced its 40mm DX Micro Nikkor, the Tokina 35mm AT-X was the only dedicated DX macro lens that could also be used as a normal prime.
My 17-35mm f/2.8 has squeaked on autofocus from the day I bought it last January, but other than the noise, it worked perfectly (and attracted squirrels. Just kidding.) But I worried that some day the lens would finally stop focusing. So I sent it in to Nikon repair a couple weeks ago for a warranty fix, and it just came back today.

Subjective evaluation of the 17-35 mm f/2.8 AFS Nikkor. See text for details. Compared to the 20-35 mm f/2.8 Nikkor, the 17-35 lens is slightly heavier and balances nicely on all modern Nikon bodies. Its IF construction makes for very fast AF action on the F5 and D1 cameras. It is a two-ring design which is simplicity itself to use in practical
I suggest the AF 18 - 35mm f/3.5-4.5D ED-IF. It sells for about $450 after the rebate. I use the AF-S 17 - 35mm f/2.8 ED-IF that weighs a ton and costs $1,500 and which I bought before the smaller 18 - 35 was introduced. For rational people the 18 - 35 gives exactly the same quality images as my $1,500 lens without all the weight.
Nikon calls this the NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8: NIKKOR: Nikon's brand name for all their lenses. Z: For Nikon's mirrorless cameras.
